PSHE

Intent

At Stourfield Infant School, we are committed to nurturing the holistic development of every child, fostering their emotional, social, and personal growth through our PSHE curriculum. We believe that a strong foundation in PSHE is essential for children to thrive, build positive relationships, and develop the skills necessary to navigate the complexities of life.

We utilize the Jigsaw program to deliver a comprehensive and engaging PSHE curriculum across Reception, Year 1, and Year 2. Jigsaw's mindful approach empowers children to understand themselves and others, develop emotional literacy, and build resilience. We aim to create a safe and supportive environment where children feel valued, respected, and confident to express their feelings and opinions.

At Stourfield Infant School, we strive to achieve this in the following ways:

  • Emotional Literacy: We provide children with the tools to identify, understand, and manage their emotions, fostering self-awareness and empathy.

  • Relationships: We encourage children to build positive and respectful relationships with their peers, teachers, and families, promoting cooperation and understanding.

  • Health and Wellbeing: We equip children with the knowledge and skills to make healthy choices, both physically and mentally, promoting a positive sense of self and wellbeing.

  • Citizenship: We foster a sense of belonging and responsibility within our school and wider community, encouraging children to be active and thoughtful citizens.

  • Jigsaw Framework: We use the Jigsaw program's progressive framework to address key PSHE themes, including mindfulness, relationships, changing me, and healthy me, in an age-appropriate and engaging manner.

  • Safe and Supportive Environment: We create a safe and inclusive environment where children feel comfortable sharing their thoughts and feelings, fostering open communication and mutual respect.

EYFS

In the EYFS, we focus on developing children's personal, social, and emotional development through Jigsaw and play-based learning. We support children to:

  • Build positive relationships with adults and peers.

  • Develop self-confidence and self-awareness.

  • Manage their feelings and behavior.

  • Understand and follow social rules.

By providing a strong foundation in PSHE, we empower children to become confident, resilient, and responsible individuals, ready to embrace the challenges and opportunities of their future.
